The Best Way to Pack for a Move

When it comes to moving, the last thing you want to see happen is to get to your brand new home and open up your boxes only to find your books are bent, your trinkets have broken, and your glass and ceramics have shattered. This is where proper packing techniques come into play. Lucky for you, we here at Hawaiian Moving have years of experience packing belongings safely and efficiently so as to maximize space and ensure absolute safety. Let’s take a sneak peek at some of these best practices.

Pack Books Tightly

When it comes to prized books, you’re going to want to pack them tightly in the box, this way you minimize the chance of them shifting and falling in the box and by extension make it nearly impossible for their pages and covers to bend and crease. Since books are heavy, you’ll probably only want to pack your boxes about halfway with books, and then pack the rest of the box with folded clothes. You can even fold a pajama shirt around your rare or delicate books to ensure that nothing happens to them during the move.

Put Trinkets Away

Whenever ppossible, you should be sure to pack your trinkets back in their original boxes, or even pack them into new small boxes if they didn’t originally come in a box. This way, they can all be packed into the larger cardboard boxes without the likelihood of being broken in the move. As always, it’s best to use your best judgment in these cases. Those trinkets that are most fragile should be packed at the top of the box, perhaps in a box and wrapped in a shirt. Better safe than sorry, after all.

Cushion Your Fragiles

When it comes to packing your fragile valuables such as glass or ceramics, you’re going to want to give them as much cushion as possible. If they have too much of a pressure point in the box, there’s a much higher chance of them cracking or even shattering altogether. This is where newspaper, bubble wrap, and spare shirts come in handy.
